Track and Field Crowns a State Champion

The 4A State Championships started on Friday and continued through Saturday under very hot conditions.  On Friday, Travis Jenkins became the first state champion for track and field since 1978.  Travis placed first in long jump with a mark of 22 feet 5 inches.  Second place had a mark of 21 feet 9 inches.  Later in the day, Travis went to place in high jump with 5 feet 10 inches with an 8th place finish.  Shaneara Terry also placed in 16th in her 100 meter trials.

On Saturday, Travis continued with a new school record in triple jump of 42 feet 4.5 inches but this brought him to 10th place.  Rayven Ray then competed in high jump placing 5th with a height of 5 feet 2 inches.  Shaneara Terry placed in pole vault with an 8th place finish with a height of 7 feet 6 inches.  Freshman Brianna Best jumped in long jump with a distance of 15 feet 7 inches.  Lastly, the girls 4x100 team of Rayven Ray, Brianna Best, Diamond Hunter, and Shaneara Terry placed in 10th place and a new school record time of 50.16 seconds.

After an amazing season, these athletes have shown that Kenwood Track and Field is back.
